Mike Hanson of the Madison Police Department will speak about crisis communication from the perspective of his role as public information officer. His presentation will include the efforts related to recent Madison murders, and his experiences working in a challenged west side neighborhood as a neighborhood officer. Mike has been a police officer with the Madison Police Department for over seven years and has held a variety of positions, from working downtown on the evening shift, to public information officer to his current position as the neighborhood police officer on the west side.
Mike Hansen was born and raised in Madison. He attended Winona State University where he majored in public relations, played college basketball and met his wife. Hanson and his wife have three beautiful, busy children, ages 10, 6 and 3. Later he earned a master’s degree in human resource management and then took more graduate courses in public administration.
He’s been a police officer with the Madison Police Department for over seven years and has held a variety of positions, from working downtown on the evening shift, to public information officer to his current position as the neighborhood police officer on the west side. Having worked in the private and public sectors for a variety of companies, he can say that working for the MPD has been exciting, honorable and rewarding and he loves his job and the department.
